Ardistani Campaign

#1
Background Story

The Republic of Ardistan, a former Soviet state located near Kazakhstan, is a large country that has long been plagued by political instability. Immediately after its independence after the fall of the Soviet Union, it was thrown into a civil war when soldiers previously employed by the Soviet Union attempted to take control of the country by force.
Supported by the neighbouring countries of Krazkovia and Takistan , already controlled by their Military Juntas, the Ardistani military won the civil war and took control of the country.

During the ‘’Second Krazkovian Civil War’’, Ardistan openly backed the UPA that was fighting for control of the country. This ended in open warfare between Ardistani ‘’volunteers’’ and NATO and resulted in the ‘’Second Krazkovian Civil War’’ being won by the NATO backed Krazkovian government. Takistan and Ardistan, however, remained independent and controlled by their respective authoritarian governments.

NATO continued their combat operations in the region though, with the intent to force regime changes in what was named the ‘’Dictators’ Triangle’’. Ardistan has furthermore been attempting to develop a nuclear weapons programme, and their recent investments in foreign terrorist organizations and partnered dictatorships has given NATO a clear reason to intervene before they fully develop and deploy a nuclear weapon.

NATO’s invasion of Ardistan will include US/British/French/Canadian/Italian units, with the largest commitment being the US’. US Forces from the XVIII Airborne Corps will initially land in the Al-Rayak region, from which this US contingent of the invasion plans to advance deeper into Ardistan. The Rayak region is an important economic centre for Ardistan and the area through which they have so far received the majority of their imported weaponry. Therefore, it is a strategic target for the invasion, and will likely see heavy fighting due to the presence of the Ardistani's 13th Army Corps which has various bases in the region. This Army Corps includes 2 regiments of the Ardistani Army's Rapid Response Force (RRF) that have operated alongside the Takistani and Kolgujev Armies in their respective conflicts and are therefore considered ''veteran'' units that have received modernised equipment.

US forces are expected to launch their invasion of the Al-Rayak region with a tremendous air and naval campaign that will bombard and weaken the Ardistani Armed Forces so that both Amphibious and Air-Assault forces can land at vital positions along the Ardistani coastline.

To support the invasion (Operation Handheld), elements from the CIA's SAC have been operating in-country for 2 months to undermine support for the Ardistani Regime and to create resistance cells that can cooperate with NATO forces. Similarly, USSOCOM forces will infiltrate Ardistan 72 hours prior to the invasion to assist with the strategic bombardment and interdiction campaign of the US Navy and Air Force. These elements will also operate in the Al-Rayak region.

Mission
1-32IN, as part of the 1st IBCT, will be operating alongside elements of the 82nd Airborne’s 3rd IBCT and the 1st Cavalry’s 1st ABCT in the Al-Rayak region.

These units are responsible for securing the Al-Rayak region, which is strategically located along the coastline of the Ardistani Republic. This region, furthermore, hosts a large number of Ardistani Army bases as well as vital infrastructure leading to the Ardistani capital.

The main objective of US Forces in Al-Rayak will be to capture all urban areas and allow for the region to be utilised as a beachhead from which further advances can be made.

Enemy Forces:
In this region, G-2 has identified the following hostile forces that are garrisoned in the area.
  • 3rd Armoured Division: Well equipped with AFVs and SPGs, a mixture of professional soldiers and conscripts. Equipment of Soviet origin, lower-than-average level of training.
  • 17th Infantry Brigade: A mobile force, well equipped with all types of AFVs and supporting fire support. Professional soldiers, with equipment of Soviet origin. Level of training is better than average. Part of the ‘’Rapid Response Forces’’.
  • 15th Missile Brigade: The Rocket Artillery unit in the region, with equipment ranging from MLRS to SRBMs. Made up of conscripted soldiers and will be poorly trained.
  • 234th Special Purpose Detachment: Interior Ministry Special Forces. Well-equipped with modernised weapons & gear and can be considered elite.
  • 17th Air and Air Defense Brigade: Ardistani Air Force unit with squadrons of MiG-21s/MiG-29s as well as Su-25s. Well-trained and experienced. Their Anti-Air units are equipped with SA-19, SA-21 and Rapier missile systems.
  • 8th National Guard Regiment: Reserve force, poorly equipped and poorly trained that is in charge of performing internal security tasks.

These forces are a mix of mechanised units, mainly resembling a Soviet-styled Armed Force from the 1990s. The main experience they have received has come from battling in the Krazkoviak Civil War, giving them valuable combat experience. However, the conscripts lack this experience and the National Guard units lack any form of proper training.

Weaponry & Gear of the Ardistani Armed Forces is limited to pre-2000s equipment, with smaller numbers of slightly modernised equipment being available to specialised units.

Prepare yourselves people, we will be fighting in a large region that is partially urbanised. Local population is against us, so we will be dealing with potential saboteurs or spies within our lines. Our technological edge will give us a clear advantage. Prepare yourselves for a bloody battle, considering there is lots to be done.

I hope to see you on the field.
